Tom Bassett is a partner at ETRA, LLC, a public accounting firm focusing on individuals, trusts, estates, and charitable tax planning, consulting, and compliance.
Tom’s career began at KPMG, LLP where he spent 7 years in the federal tax and personal financial planning departments. Subsequently, Tom joined BKD, LLP (now Forvis/ Mazars) for 12 years, then headed the tax department at Commerce Trust Company in St. Louis for 10 years. Tom then led the global individual and estate tax departments at Northern Trust. Following Northern, Tom co-managed the charitable trust outsourcing practice at Ernst & Young, LLP, before co-founding ETRA.
Tom is a Certified Public Accountant (Missouri), a licensed attorney (Missouri), and a member of the Estate Planning Council of St. Louis. Tom is active on the Finance Committee at the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) and is the current chair of BAMSL’s Tax Section, planning CLE for members of the organization.
Tom is also a prior board member at Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA), where he continues as an active volunteer.
Tom has authored articles appearing in The Asset (a publication of the Missouri Society of CPAs) and the American Bar Association’s Tax Times publication and has conducted webinars on charitable remainder trusts and their uses in charitable and estate planning.
Tom received his B.A., JD and MBA degrees from Washington University in St. Louis.
